Antoine Wolfe is an ex-soldier working as a paranormal detective living in pre-apocalyptic Los Angeles.
If that wasn't strange enough, he is also an immortal, possibly a werewolf, and best friends with a coffee loving creature from the Cthulhu universe.
When he's not dealing with vampire landlords unfairly raising rent on his friend's apartment, he is being forced to work for a corrupt CEO who runs his corporation like the mafia. If that wasn't stressful enough, he is also haunted literally and figuratively by the ghosts of his fellow soldiers who didn't make it back from the war. these troubles have led Antoine to a life of alcoholism and loneliness.
Despite being down in the dumps and living a pretty miserable life, Wolfe is respected and feared by members of the supernatural community. When a young girl's family is murdered, the ghost of her grandmother tells her that only one person can help her. That person is Antoine Wolfe.
I really enjoyed the first issue of Wolf. The book is over 40 pages long and sets up four or five story lines that I think will keep the book interesting for some time to come. Ales Kot, writer of the spy/super soldier comic Zero, is one of the weirdest(in a good way) and most interesting writers in the business. I think he has another winner on his hands with Wolf and I can't wait to see where he takes it.
