Everyone's favorite wall-crawler is getting a new video game!! For those who haven't heard, at the Sony Press Conference at E3 this year, Sony has announced that everyone's favorite Marvel superhero will have his own game exclusive to Playstation 4 consoles. All I can say is that it is about time because the last couple of games for Spider-Man were based on The Amazing Spider-Man movies or as some people call it, the trilogy that never got the third movie. The previous tie-in games reflected the movies the same way the sun reflects off of asphalt, a burn so bad it hurts your eyes and your soul.
Spidey is in some very capable hands this time by that of Insomniac Games, famous for making popular game series such as Spyro, Rachet & Clank, and Resistance. From the previous titles, Insomniac Games is known for making some crazy weaponry for their protagonists. Although, I doubt we'll see Spidey wield a Groovitron like Rachet and Clank or anything that resembles a gun from Resistance, we may be able to expect some cool new gadgets for the little web-head.
From the looks of the trailer, we see Spidey donning a newly designed suit but with the same quality eye-shutter action that has been seen in Captain America: Civil War. This iteration of Spider-Man resembles that of Tom Holland's Spidey that we have witnessed in Captain America: Civil War. Rest assured, Insomniac has announced that the game will not be based on the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming. This is a good decision by Insomniac to try a brand new story with Spidey at the forefront. Let the puns commence!
Even though the movie tie-in games don't necessarily hold a place in my heart, let alone a place within 100 miles of me, the Spider-Man 2 tie-in game was one of the most beloved games that captured what it feels like to be Spider-Man. The web-swinging, the free-roaming, the butt-kicking, the free-falling, and definitely the part about not getting the girl. This is one of the very, VERY few games that gives you that same feeling of what it means to be Spider-Man and Insomniac Games has a pretty high bar to reach in order to encapsulate that Spidey-like feeling again. Be sure to expect Spider-Man to be web-slinging to your PS4 consoles in 2017. Until then wall-crawlers, stay AMAZING!
